The sensor reads the level
Stainless electrodes inside the tank sense the water at 25, 50, 75 and 100%. Right now it's at 25%.

It tells the controller
The solar sensor sends the reading over the air. No wires run between the roof and the pump.

The controller starts the pump
It sees 25%, switches the pump on and checks that water is really coming up from the sump.

The tank fills
Water climbs from the sump to the roof, and every new reading on the way up is sent down again.

It stops when full
